Skills First Program

To be eligible for a State Government subsidised place under the Skills First Program, you must meet the criteria below:

You must be either:

  • an Australian citizen;
  • a Permanent Resident;
  • a New Zealand citizen; or
  • an Asylum seeker*

*Must have a referral to government funded subsidised training from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre or the Australian Red Cross Victims of Human Trafficking Program. Individuals with a valid BVE, SHEV, TPV, BVF, subclass 449 or 786 visa are also eligible.

 

You must bring one of the following Proof of Citizenship/Residency identity documents to your enrolment appointment (original or certified documents):

  • Current green Medicare Card
  • Current Australian Passport
  • Current New Zealand Passport
  • Australian Birth Certificate (not Birth Extract)
  • Australian Citizenship Certificate
  • Australian Certificate of Registration by Descent
  • New Zealand Birth Certificate
  • New Zealand Citizenship Certificate
  • a Referral to Government Subsidised Training -Asylum Seekers’ form from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre or the Australian Red Cross

You must be physically present in the State of Victoria at all times whilst undertaking training and assessment.

 

If your address is not included in your proof of citizenship/residency document, you will need to provide an official document that proves evidence of Victorian residence e.g. Victorian Driver Licence or Learner Permit.

There are limits on the amount of subsidised training that you can enrol in.

 

‘2 in a year’

Per calendar year, students may commence a maximum of:

  • two Skills First skill sets; AND
  • two Skills First qualifications.

Note: This does not include moving from a superseded program to the current version of the same program, or recommencing the same program at the same or different RTO.

 

‘2 at a time’

Students may be enrolled in a maximum of two Skills First programs (Skill Sets and AQF qualifications) at any one time, i.e. either two skill sets OR two qualifications OR one skill set and one qualification.

Note: Participation in ‘22510VIC - Course in Identifying and Responding to Family Violence Risk’ does not apply to either of the volume limit rules.

Enrolment for eligible learners is under the Skills First Program and may impact access to further government subsidised training. For additional information regarding the Skills First Program please contact us.
