HLT64115 - Advanced Diploma of Nursing

Overview

This qualification reflects the role of enrolled nurses with advanced skills who work in a specialised area of nursing practice. At this level, enrolled nurses integrate and adapt specialised, technical and theoretical knowledge to address a diverse range of clinical situations and challenges in their area of specialisation. They contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice using research and participation in broader organisational quality processes. Enrolled nurses retain responsibility for their own actions while remaining accountable to the Registered Nurse/Midwife for all delegated functions.

Duration and Delivery

This qualification is delivered over a period of 665 hours and a minimum 200 hours of Professional Experience Practice (PEP), completed within the student’s workplace. Participants enrolled in this course will have up to eight months to complete the course requirements.

Format

This qualification will be delivered using a combination of face-to-face, online delivery, skills training, assisted self-directed study, assessments and assessment assistance and PEP to build on participant’s knowledge and skills on-the-job.

Professional Practice Experience

Students will be required to undertake PEP within their own workplace. The student will be required to have specific assessments signed off by a registered nurse within the workplace as part of their clinical practice experience.

Purpose

This qualification reflects the role of enrolled nurses with advanced skills who work in a specialised area of nursing practice. They contribute to the continuous improvement of clinical practice using research and participation in broader organisational quality processes at an Advanced Enrolled Nurse level.

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be an enrolled nurse who is currently registered by AHPRA and working in their chosen specialty area.
  • Must have completed a Diploma of Nursing qualification.
Recognition of Prior Learning

Students may be able to increase the length of their studies if they wish to. Recognition of past experience and/ or qualifications gained elsewhere is also acknowledged. Applications can be made for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer. These will be assessed according to the ALACC’s policy & procedures to determine if/how much advanced standing will be granted. This qualification holds National Recognition.

Pathway

Successful completion of this course may enable you to practice as an Advanced Enrolled Nurse and/or complete a Bachelor of Nursing:
NB: Credits for a Bachelor of Nursing are at the discretion of the university and not the responsibility of ALACC Health.

Qualification Structure

Advanced Diploma of Nursing requires successful completion of 10 units.
These include: 3 Core Units and 7 Elective Units as specified in the HLT Health Training Package relating to the specialty area chosen from Groups A to G. For further information please refer to the HLT64115 Advanced Diploma of Nursing training package.
